John R. Wintermute, 56, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, June 4, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on June 21, 1953, in Whitewater, son of the late Hallie and Eva (Harris) Wintermute. He lived in Hebron until he married Rebecca Wolfram on June 30, 1973, in Fort Atkinson.

John was a very outgoing man. He would, could and did talk to everyone he met. He loved people.

He was a fan of John Deere tractors, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and SciFi movies. He also enjoyed driving his Firebird Convertible and riding his Harley.

John started his young life by working at Thomas Industries, Nasco Inc., and spent the last 19 years at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Residence Life where he fullfilled his dream of taking care of and helping young people. He became a devoted christian and was a member of Fort Christian Assembly Church.

John is survived by his wife, Becky; children, Chad (Tamera) and Marc Wintermute, both of Fort Atkinson; adopted son, Daniel Davis (Cindy) of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, David and Kayla Wintermute; brothers, Jim (Linda) Wintermute of Fort Atkinson, Dean Wintermute of Hebron; his sister, Betty Hodyniak of Loves Park, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his brother Stanley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, at the Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson with Pastor Don Seeman officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the memorial home until the time of service. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery.
