Dorothy Evelyn Sherk Obituary

Born: October 7th, 1915

Died: April 28th, 2013

Dorothy Sherk

Dorothy slipped from the loving environment of Forest Heights Long Term Care Centre, Kitchener into the presence of her Saviour on Sunday, April 28, 2013, in her 98th year.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Lillie (Wintemute) Sherk; sister, Margaret Hasty; and brothers, John, James, Mark, and Gordon Sherk.

Cherished sister of Kathleen Sherk of Kitchener, Coral Lutz of Virgil, and Marion Sandler and her husband Stanley of North Carolina. Dorothy was a special friend to her many nieces, nephews and their families.

Dorothy’s life reflected an almost century-long commitment to Jesus Christ and His gospel. Herself a brilliant scholar, Dorothy became a source of knowledge and wisdom for countless students, an ever-ready helping hand for family and friends, a confidant and comforter for the forgotten and unloved, a door-opener for a long stream of oppressed refugees. An untiring warrior for Christ, she led Bible studies since her earlier teen years. Church leaders looked to her for guidance because of her quiet faith and wisdom. She and her home were always open to pop-in visitors or six months stays; her home was always fun and cheerful and was often a full house. Her financial no-strings-attached generosity gave countless people a start, a reprieve, or just help along the way. Dorothy was the ultimate doer of the Word. She loved God with all her mind, soul and strength, and loved her neighbour as herself. Thanks be to God!

Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Dorothy during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, April 30 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life and faith will be held at Westheights Community Church, 82 Westheights Drive, Kitchener on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Illman officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment at Bertie Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery, Stevensville, Ontario on Thursday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m.

Condolences for the family and memorial donations to Brethren in Christ World Missions or the Belmont Hall Fund at N.C.C. may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
