Stanley W. Wintermute, 69, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at his home, with his loving wife Barbara at his side.

He was born in Palmyra on Feb. 5, 1940, the son of Halsey and Eva (Harris) Wintermute. He married Barbara L. Becker on Jan. 19, 1996.

Stanley had been employed at Thomas Industries in Fort Atkinson until its closing. Later he was employed as a machinist at D J & R Manufacturing in Helenville, retiring in 2005.

Stanley was a long-time member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post of Fort Atkinson.

He was a winning tractor puller in the early 1960s, a collector of toy tractors, a John Deere enthusiast and avid Cubs fan.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Barbara; stepchildren, Geri Lodl, Debra (Jeff) Boos, Dan Langholff, Gregory Langholff and Amy (Peter) Krause; 10 step-grandchildren; one step-great- grandchild; three brothers, Dean Wintermute, Jim (Linda) Wintermute and John (Becky) Wintermute; and a sister, Betty Hodyniak.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Ethan Steinbrenner and Steven Wilkens co-officiating. Friends may call at the church from noon until the time of the service.

A get-together for family and friends will be held at "What's The Point" on U.S. Highway 12 west, Fort Atkinson, beginning at 5 p.m.

Private burial will be held at a later date in Hebron Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Lutheran School or Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson County.

Dunlap Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
