Stanley G. Wintermote, 77, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at home with his family by his side. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Stanley Gay Wintermote was born July 25, 1935 in Casper, Wyoming to Clarence and Winnie (Harrison) Wintermote. Stanley grew up and graduated high school from Cody, Wyoming in 1953. After high school he earned his Bachelors of Science degree from University of Wyoming in 1957. While attending college Stanley was a member of the wrestling team and became a National Champion at the 138 pound weight class. After graduation he taught high school and coached wrestling in Evanston, Wyoming and later in Lander, Wyoming. Stanley also earned his Masters of Earth Science from the University of Oklahoma before teaching in El Centro, California where he later retired in 1998. The couple then made their home in Ankeny, Iowa

On January 26, 1958 Stanley was united in marriage to Judith Louise Stacy. The couple made their home in El Centro, California and was blessed with six children. Stanley had a passion for teaching and was a lifelong educator. Mostly he loved spending time with Judy, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Judy; children, Kirk Wintermote, Michael (Heidi) Wintermote, Melissa (Steven) Vogel; James Wintermote, Judith (Lore Bribiesca) Wintermote, and Kelly Wintermote; grandchildren, Scott Wright, Tyler Wintermote, Veronica Vogel, Steven Vogel Jr., Eric Wintermote, Cody Wintermote, Stephanie Wintermote, and Jordan Wintermote; great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Wright and Mackenzie Wright; and sister, Verna (Roy) Burrows. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Janice Wintermote-Snyder.

Memorial contributions may be direct in Stanley's name to John Stoddard Cancer Center, 1221 Pleasant Street Des Moines, IA 50309.
