Dean H. Wintermute

Dean H. Wintermute, 77, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.

Dean was born in Palmyra on April 9, 1934, the son of the late Halsey Jr. and Eva (Harris) Wintermute.

He married Barbara Shaw on June 29, 1968. She died on Jan. 29, 2004.

Dean joined the United States Army in the 1950s and was stationed in Korea following the war. He was a member of the Palmyra American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He also was a longtime member of the Jefferson County Beekeepers Association.

He had worked for more than 20 years at Carnation (now Nestle Purina) in Jefferson until his retirement.

Dean enjoyed playing euchre with his friends, looking for treasures with his metal detector and tinkering on many different projects in his shop. He always was giving a helping hand to his friends and neighbors.

Dean also had a passion for traveling, and had traveled all over Europe and across the United States.

He is survived by his daughters, Victoria (Gary) Teubert and Deborah (Tim) Miller, both of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Ashley and Melissa Kosloski; brother, James (Linda) Wintermute of Fort Atkinson; sister, Betty Hodyniak of Rockford, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley and John Wintermute, and a half-brother, Joseph Sonnenburg.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Hebron United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen Klatt officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Hebron Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
